Using Shake-To-Undo feature on MacBook Pro

If you have already used iPhone or iPad, then you surely would be familiar about the shake-to-undo feature in it. This feature will let you shake the iDevice in order to undo any action or clear any text box. With the assistance of third party software, this interesting feature can be brought to the MacBooks as they are fitted with a SMS (Sudden Motion Sensor). This will especially work with the MacBook Pro and the recent unibody MacBooks. This app will work by activating it with the Command + Z controls while the SMS detects the movement.
You might now become concerned about the accidental undos that might happen as you move your MacBook. This can be prevented by activating the Confirmation Overlay in the Shake To Undo tool’s menubar. This activation will prompt a confirmation dialog whenever a movement is detected by the sudden motion sensor. You can confirm to clear or undo the text by using this.

Quick switching between Desktop Spaces with Control Keys in Mac OS X

In OS X Lion, you can quickly switch between desktops and spaces that are active by three finger swipe sideways while this can be made still faster with the Control keys.
By default, the Control + Arrow key (Control + Left Arrow to switch to the desktop space on the left and Control + Right to switch it to the right) is the first option and it is enabled.
The second option that is faster makes use of the Control + Number keys and it has to be enabled by doing the following steps:
Open the System Preferences from the menu
Go to Keyboard and then select the Keyboard Shortcuts option
Select Mission Control from the list that is on the left
Check the options Switch to Desktop 1 and so on as per the number of desktops that you require
Exit the System Preferences
Now you have to press Control + 1 to go to Desktop 1 and so on to move to the particular desktops. This method is the fastest one to switch between the desktops in OS X Lion.

How to change the default format of screenshot in OS X Lion

If you have used a Mac, you would know that capturing screenshots is easy in Mac OS X. But not all will be happy with the PNG format that is default. You can now change this default screenshot easily with a terminal application.
The common disclaimer with this is that you have to be cautious with the Terminal mainly if you are not too familiar with it. Type the commands as they are and keep in mind that the most of them are case sensitive.
Open Terminal from Utilities folder in Applications folder and then type the following command:
defaults write com.apple.screencapture type pdf
The pdf in this command can be replaced with other formats like gif, tiff or ipg as per your wish. To make this change effective either log out and then log in or type the following command in the Terminal and then press Enter:
killall SystemUIServer
Copy and paste these commands in the Terminal to avoid creating any mistake.

How to Restore the Old Look of iCal in Lion

Apple has redesigned the iCal with a faux leather finish in the OS X Lion and this looks like a calendar binding. This design is termed skeuomorphic but the reason is to make it comfortable and familiar for the users. The iCal in Lion has the old look like that of a physical calendar and then ports it a virtual application.
Some users might like this new look of the iCal in OS X Lion but many have come up with complaints. If you want iCal to look like it was in Snow Leopard, there is a trick. Using the following trick you can restore the monochromatic glory of iCal in Lion.
Before beginning to do this, ensure that the data in iCal is backed up for safety purposes. It should work perfectly if you follow these instructions correctly.
To create a backup, on the desktop, make a new folder and then go to the Applications folder and find out the iCal icon in it. Copy this icon from the Applications folder and paste it in the new one that you created using Cmd+C and Cmd+V controls. After this is successfully done, ensure that you close iCal. This step of creating a backup and leaving iCal is very important while you change the content files of the app.
Right click on the iCal icon in the Applications folder and then click on “show Package Contents”.
Now open the Contents folder and then the Resources folder.
Download the zip file responsible to replace the leather theme of iCal with a grey solid bar. These files are simple and usable.
Drag all the contents in the ical_lion_silver folder to the Resources folder of iCal. You can use Cmd+A to do this task.
You will be prompted by Finder to select between options such as Keep Both Files, Replace and Stop. Then you have to select the checkbox stating Apply to All and then click on Replace.
You have to confirm this action in Finder by providing the administrator password.
Once it is done, close all the windows in Finder and then open iCal. You should now see the monochromatic look of iCal as in Snow Leopard rather than the leather theme.
