Review of Sony Xperia Play

Advancement such as dual core gyroscopes and processors have evolved these days in order to make the smart phones satisfactory for playing games. Sony Ericsson, one of the leading cell phone manufacturers, has come up with the Xperia Play to satisfy the needs of those who still require a dedicated device for playing games. This review of Sony Xperia Play shows how it is an interpretation of a Playstation Phone by Sony Ericsson.
Specifications
The Xperia has 4 inch touch screen display with 480 x 854 pixel resolution and 16 M colors. There is a 5 MP camera with autofocus and LED flash with WVGA video recording facilities. The xperia Play makes use of Android Gingerbread operating system and it is equipped with Flash Lite support. The standard 1500 mAh Li-ion battery in this device has a stand by time of 425 hours in 2G and 413 hours in 3G and a talk time of 8.5 hours in 2G and 6.5 hours in 3G. It has Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth v2.1.
Layout of Controls
The Xperia Play resembles the Android smart phones with a sliding gamepad under it. The layout of the buttons is similar to that of the DualShock by Sony. It has a D pad on its left and the face buttons such as square, cross, circle and triangle on the right. The Start and Select buttons are placed on the right bottom corner and the Menu button is placed on the left bottom corner.
Lacking Features
It is not loaded with the best CPU and GPU and the display has poor viewing angles. Video recording is not quiet proper at the WVGA resolution. The device lacks video calling in 3G networks, shutter key for camera, smart dialing capability and FM radio. These features are found lacking in this review of Sony Xperia Play while there are many other reviews out there.
Pros and Cons
The Gingerbread operating system is simple without any complications and the sliding gamepad contributes to serious game play. There are exciting features like Wi-Fi, GPS and front facing secondary camera. It is preloaded with famous games like Asphalt 6 and Crash Bandicoot. As per this review of Sony Xperia Play, the touch screen controls are not too precise and responsive as desired and the quality of photos is only average. Though the Xperia Play is a noteworthy step in mobile gaming, it is suffering from some main limitations in the hardware.
